Rebel Wilson Credits This Role For Having “Changed My Love Life Completely”
“I was so nervous...I’d never kissed a woman before," Rebel says of her onscreen kiss in 'The Almond and the Seahorse'
Rebel Wilson is giving credit where credit is due. In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the Australian actress admitted she doesn’t know if “my heart” would have been open to a romantic relationship with a woman had it not been for her onscreen kiss with The Almond and the Seahorse costar Charlotte Gainsbourg.
“I was so nervous. Charlotte Gainsbourg was the first woman I’d ever kissed. I’d never kissed a woman before,” Wilson told the outlet.
The Almond and the Seahorse centers around Wilson’s character, a married archaeologist who embarks on a surprising yet tantalizing affair with a woman (Gainsbourg) following her husband’s traumatic brain injury. The dramatic role is a departure from the more comedic films on Wilson’s resume like How to Be Single and the Pitch Perfect franchise.

While the onscreen kiss between her and Gainsbourg’s characters doubled as Wilson’s first kiss with a woman in real-life, she “didn’t think it was that big of a deal or anything.” She further explained, “I had kind of had a situation with a woman before, not a sexual relationship and we hadn’t kissed or anything.”
“But then the kiss with Charlotte came up,” she added. “Then, weirdly through kissing her in my professional life I thought, well, maybe I should do that for real in my personal life and see how it goes, which I did.”
In June 2022, Wilson introduced the world to her “Disney princess,” Ramona Agruma, via Instagram. Albeit, she told The Hollywood Reporter she and her partner initially began seeing each other at the end of 2021, as filming for The Almond and the Seahorse wrapped.
Looking back on the film, Wilson said “it changed my love life completely.”
“If I hadn’t had the experience with Charlotte or the experience with the other woman, I don’t know if I would have ever met Ramona. Having those experiences opened my heart up to it as a possibility,” she explained. “I’m grateful for those two experiences.”
The Almond and the Seahorse hits theaters on Friday, Dec. 16. Fans will also be able to rent the film on Prime Video or Apple TV.
