Rebel Wilson has some thoughts about body image that we all need to hear

Rebel Wilson is (rightfully) Cosmopolitan UK‘s Woman of the Year, and the covergirl for the magazine’s January issue. The Pitch Perfect star has killed it both on screen and on stage at things like the MTV Music Awards. Not only are we happy her work is being honored, but also that we get pages upon pages of Rebel Wilson goodness, including some awesome write-on-your-bathroom-mirror words about body image and being a woman in Hollywood.

The way Rebel sees it, falling outside the cookie-cutter norm for female body types is actually an advantage in an industry that’s in desperate need of all kinds of diversity. “Being unique and different was a really good thing,” she explained. “When I walked into my agent’s office for the first time, they looked at me and said, ‘Wow, we have nobody on our books like you.’ And they signed me on my second day here.”

This doesn’t mean, however, that she’s pitting one type of body against another. There’s just no need for that kind of competition, especially when all bodies are necessary. “I wouldn’t ever want to compete with what I call ‘the glamours’ — the really gorgeous people. I’m about the brain, the heart and what’s on the inside. I feel really lucky to be the body type I am,” she said, dropping the mic and giving us some words to live by.

We’re so happy that Rebel Wilson doesn’t let the pressures of Hollywood get to her, and that she’s using opportunities like this to share her wisdom. We hope 2016 brings just as much success and, hopefully, even more awesome magazine covers.
