Rebecca Black is looking back on ‘Friday’ and we’re feeling all the feels

In the latest episode of We Are Getting So Old, Rebecca Black sat down with People to look back on her infamous song “Friday” — which came out FIVE YEARS AGO.

Now, if you’re not familiar with the song, buckle up because we are going back in time to 2011. Don’t be afraid, we won’t tell anyone about your love of gaucho pants (now called culottes) and crunchy hair.

“Friday” is a song written and produced by Los Angeles record producers Clarence Jey and Patrice Wilson and performed by Rebecca Black. The song — and the accompanying music video — went viral and currently has over 100 million views, over 600,000 likes, and 2 million dislikes on YouTube.

When “Friday” first came out, Rebecca was just 13. As the YouTube hits rolled in, Rebecca faced bullying from her classmates, which led her to withdraw from public school and start homeschooling. However, Rebecca says that she looks back at the song fondly because it kicked off her career.

“I will always love a piece of 'Friday' because it’s my own song," she said.

Fast forward to 2016, and Rebecca Black is taking the world by a storm once again! This time, Rebecca is releasing new music that actually represents her musical range and talents. On September 3rd, she released the music video for her new song “The Great Divide,” and we are LOVING this song and video.

“I just wanted to prove everyone wrong, but at the same time, now that it’s here I have that within myself and I don’t need that anymore," Rebecca told Entertainment Weekly.
