There’s actually a reason why you want to pour your soul into whoever you just had sex with

Science can reveal some pretty strange things about the way our brain works. Even though we think we know what’s happening in our heads when it comes to sex, science steps in to prove us wrong. Recent studies show that having sex makes us want to open up in ways we may not be inclined to do if we were in a non-sexual situation. No wonder we feel like cuddling and talking about our deepest hopes and fears post-orgasm.

In the Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin, a brand new study shows that sex leads us to talk about things we’d normally be closed off about.

In fact, even being presented with sexually charged images could make us want to participate in self-disclosing behavior.

This will, naturally, encourage each person to engage in more sexual encounters in the future. In other words, sex encourages our brains to become closer with each other and form a strong bond with one another.

If you think about it hard enough, you can probably remember being in that position before. You’ve just had sex with someone you really like, and as you’re lying there next to each other, probably still intertwined, you can’t help but talk about a childhood memory that even your closest friends don’t know about.

This is such a powerful habit that how sexually attracted you are to a person will likely determine just how much you will share with them. In other words, the more you wanna get down and dirty with someone, the more likely you are to open up to them in a real way.

Sex breeds emotional intimacy. So don’t feel bad when you feel all those raw emotions after you’ve just finished having sex. It’s how our brains were built.
