We REALLY want this “Game of Thrones” theory about Daenerys to be true
Oh, Dany. WHAT have you gotten into this this time? Last Sunday on Game of Thrones we saw Daenerys Stormborn, Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, Queen of Mereen, Mother of Dragons (and that’s the shortened version), arrive at the holy city of Vaes Dothrak, the resting place for Dothraki khal widows. And, as we feared, her reception was not exactly, um, warm. But according to at least one Redditor, not all is lost. Which: duh. This is Dany. She’s like a cat. She’s got lives to spare.
So as it turns out, khaleesis who are sans khals are supposed to report to the dosh khaleen, where they live out their days as soothsayers and essentially arbiters of the Dothraki religion. Dany did not do this; nope, she did kind of the opposite. Conquered a few cities, rode on some dragons. You know, chill stuff. But now that she’s back in the custody of the Dothraki, she’s paying for her “sins.” And that means punishment. Like, death punishment. Now, for the most part, we are past the literary GoT canon, but those of who read the books (I did not, I am SORRY), you’ll remember that Dany has a history of visions. According to the Reddit chain by u/YahooNewIsSoLazy, Dany’s premonitions about everything from the Red Wedding to being called “mother” by freed slaves was underplayed in the television adaption: “At the end [of the books], she was experiencing rapid fire visions, one line at a time. The second to last one appears to be the next place the story goes. It reads as follows: ‘Beneath the Mother of Mountains, a line of naked crones crept from a great lake and knelt shivering before her, their grey heads bowed.’”
The Mother of Mountains and the Womb of the World (a giant lake) are both located next to Vaes Dothrak. u/YahooIsSoLazy goes onto to posit that the crones are clearly the dosh khaleen, and Dany will, with the help of the widows, unite the Dothraki. Under Dany’s command, of course. Other redditors agree with this theory. TheArgonianTargaryen points out, “The Dothraki culture is based on riding, a khal who cannot sit his horse is no Khal at all. It only seems logical that they would follow someone who can ride a dragon, the ultimate mount.”
Another redditor, Clarkey7163, theorizes that Drogo is basically Dany’s dragons’ father. Which bodes well for her: “Also when you consider that the dragons were born in the flames of Drogo’s pyre, so some might consider him to be the father too, fulfilling the prophecy.” Whatever happens, we have total faith Daenerys will come out alive and striving. She always does.
