“Mr. Robot” star Rami Malek just signed on to play this legendary rock star in a biopic, and we cannot wait
We just found out that Rami Malek will be playing Freddie Mercury in the Bohemian Rhapsody biopic, and we’re beyond excited.
After all, it’s been in development with Graham King (and his GK Films) for eight years (!), reported Deadline Hollywood. Now, 20th Century Fox and New Regency have come on board to produce, too.
Bryan Singer is “in talks” to direct, according to Deadline Hollywood.
By the looks of his latest IG post, it sure looks like more than an “in talks” to us, which is even better news.

And, of course, the Anthony McCarten-penned script is about the British rock band, Queen. Btw, how can any of us ever forget the “Bohemian Rhapsody” song after this movie scene, amirite?!
In addition, original Queen bandmembers Brian May and Roger Taylor will serve as music producers, reported Variety, with Jim Beach producing and Denis O’Sullivan executive producing, too.
Meanwhile, we are ~obsessed~ with watching Malek in Mr. Robot.
ICYMI, it’s the drama/thriller USA show where Christian Slater plays Mr. Robot and recruits Malek’s character, Elliot Alderson, a hacker and cybersecurity engineer — who also happens to suffer from depression and social anxiety disorder. So while some people relate to his hacker life, others relate to Elliot’s mental state.
Malek does a ~phenomenal~ job in the role. You may remember that others agree, as he won an Emmy for “Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series” earlier this year.
Aside from Malek’s acting, we also love him for his earnestness. For instance, you may not realize that he didn’t use his Instagram account until a little over two months ago (!). The issue came up when Malek was on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, so the two took a pic together for Malek’s bare IG account.

Awwww. While we wait for Malek in Bohemian Rhapsody, we’ll just patiently wait for more Insta posts (the one with Colbert is Malek’s only one). And we’ll binge more Mr. Robot eps, of course.
