Rami Malek explained that awkward Nicole Kidman-Golden Globes moment, and it’s all good
The 2019 Golden Globes was filled with many memorable moments. Sandra Oh’s historic win, the rise of Fiji Water Girl, and yes—that awkward moment between Rami Malek and Nicole Kidman. It happened when Kidman presented the Golden Globe for Best Picture — Drama. Bohemian Rhapsody won, and Malek took the stage with fellow cast and crew to accept the award. Malek clearly attempted to say hello to Kidman, and she walked off the stage as if he didn’t exist. Like we said: awkward. false
And now, Malek has officially weighed in on the situation. In a January 8th appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the host showed Malek a clip of the moment (he had yet to see it on screen). After cracking up, Malek said, “I’ve known her [Kidman] for many years, despite [what] it may seen from that video. But in a moment like that it’s very awkward. I have a feeling this is probably haunting me on the internet.”

Malek also took home the award for Best Actor in a Drama for his portrayal of late singer Freddie Mercury, and is currently considered a major contender for this year’s Academy Awards (though Oscar announcements won’t be released until January 22nd). We’re wishing Malek all the luck…and hoping his next encounter with Kidman goes a little more smoothly.
