Rainn Wilson is joining the “Star Trek” reboot, and you know somewhere Dwight is SO proud
Dwight may have been the token geek of The Office but his counterpart Rainn Wilson just one-upped him. Rainn Wilson has joined the Star Trek: Discovery reboot and Dwight would be so freaking jealous.
So trekkies (or, trekkers) circle up! Our favorite Office nerd Rainn Wilson is joining Star Trek: Discovery — the reboot of the Star Trek TV franchise. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Wilson will play Harry Mudd, a character from the original Star Trek series. And since we know that Dwight loved Battlestar Galactica, it’s not a stretch to assume he would be psyched to be a part of the new Star Trek. And don’t worry, he’s no red shirt. In fact, Harry Mudd is one of the more comical characters in the original, so this casting choice makes total sense.
Already cast in the series are Jason Isaacs (Aka, Lucius Malfoy !!), Sonequa Martin-Green, Doug Jones, Anthony Rapp, Maulik Pancholy, and so many, many more! Of course, Twitter is excited about the announcement:
My brain is literally exploding right now imagining @rainnwilson as Harry Mudd. That is some whip smart casting. pic.twitter.com/cpL8AMszut

So when can we expect to see this new series? Star Trek: Discovery was first announced way back in 2015 and is actually being made for CBS All Access rather than airing on the CBS network. Earlier in 2017, it was announced that there was an “indefinite delay” for the series. And we’re pretty sure this is a good thing because they need to get it 100% right! And after all, Bryan Fuller has been pretty busy working on American Gods for STARZ (which looks amazing and premieres April 30th).
Hopefully, we’ll get new Star Trek episodes soon. In the meantime, there are plenty of old episodes to catch up on so go make Netflix your BFF.
