Rachel Brosnahan gave some of the best fitness advice we’ve ever heard, and all overworked people should read this
It’s been a stellar few years for actress Rachel Brosnahan. Her role as Miriam “Midge” Maisel in Amazon’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel has catapulted her career and earned her an Emmy, two Golden Globes, and a Screen Actors Guild Award. It also firmly established her as one of our favorite humans. So when Brosnahan sat down with Shape magazine to talk about her favorite fitness tips and how she stays centered (given that her life is pretty crazy right now), we were all ears. And while much of what the 28-year-old actress said was pretty par for the course (she tries to fuel her body with healthful foods and is into workout classes), she also offered a solid—yet little discussed—piece of “workout” advice.
"Sometimes I find that the best thing for my body is to just take that extra hour of sleep and not work out," she said.
Yep—sometimes the secret to a good workout is not working out—and instead letting your body get much-needed rest. The actress also noted that she finds self-care extremely important for her overall well-being and makes it a priority. “I’m good at making time for self-care when I get overwhelmed. I read a book or take a bath or snuggle with my doggies and watch Survivor. Or I have coffee with friends. One of my favorite things is to spend the time catching up with someone doing nothing but drinking coffee with them for hours and hours.”
Hear, hear! Let this serve as a reminder to listen to your body and prioritize its needs. Because sadly—in this world of deadlines, stress, and a seemingly endless To-Do list—it can be all too easy to forget.
