Rachel Bloom reveals red carpet secrets and is now our hero

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend‘s co-creator and star Rachel Bloom recently appeared in a hilarious segment of Adam Ruins Everything to remind us that celebrities are normal humans too, and that their seemingly natural perfection is actually the result of entire teams (yes, teams) of stylists and makeup artists.

“Most of the time, we look schlubbier than the crowd at a Dave Matthew’s concert. Anyone would look fantastic if they had a pit crew of hair and makeup experts Frankensteining them for six hours,” Bloom said.

HALLELUJAH! That honesty bomb just hit us in the face like a cool (and majorly refreshing) breeze.

Oh, and Bloom also took the time to remind us that a ton of what you see on the red carpet doesn’t come down to a celebrity’s personal style — or even personal taste but is more about the marketing team behind a brand.

Once a stylist selects a designer dress, the celeb usually has to get approval to wear it by the designer’s marketing team. If you don’t fit the designer’s “ideal” image, you don’t get to wear the outfit. WHAT?!

In a recent act of total baddassary, comedian Leslie Jones called out a designer who didn’t want her to wear their brand to the Ghostbusters premier, which caught the attention of Project Runway alum Christian Siriano.

Siriano designed a stunning dress for Jones, and the world was made right again.

Basically, if you ever start to feel down about not looking like a red carpet glamazon, remember, it truly is a lot of smoke and mirrors. And we thank ladies like Rachel Bloom and Leslie Jones for making sure the rest of us know it!
