Rejoice: Rachel Bloom just won a Golden Globe

Rachel Bloom just had the most perfect reaction to winning her first Golden Globe. Bloom, who co-created and stars in the CW’s Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, was nominated for and won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a TV Comedy or Musical. When her name was announced as the winner, she approached the stage in tears. “Oh my god, oh my god! Guys, guys, I’m just going to talk to you like people and talk to you like I’m not on TV.”

She recounted the road to getting her show created in her adorably emotional speech. “We almost didn’t have a show. We made a pilot for another network and they rejected it… We got 6 rejections in one day and we felt like crap, but we knew it was good.”

She then thanked Mark Pedowitz from the CW. “He’s the one that saved us and he’s the reason that there is a musical comedy on network TV right now.”

This was Bloom’s s first nomination and first win. The 28-year-old beat out fellow CW star Gina Rodriguez of Jane the Virgin, who won the award in this category last year. Bloom also beat TV veterans Lily Tomlin of Grace and Frankie, Jamie Lee Curtis of Scream Queens, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus of Veep. Going up a line-up like that has got to be nerve-racking, but Bloom handles herself with as much grace as one can when they’ve just won their first major TV award.
