Smart words about friendship from our favorite fictional BFFs

Best friends are one of life’s necessities. If they’re not with you during the best and worst moments of life, they are the first phone call after experiencing them. They tell you the truth—even when you don’t want to hear it, but need to hear it. The best friend relationship is for sure one of the most important bonds we’ll ever form in our lives. They are our sounding board for all that life throws at us and we are theirs in return. We dissect everything from dates, bosses, annoying things our mom said and how many calories are actually in a brownie batter donut if you ate it while walking up a flight of stairs. When we’re drowning in negative emotions over a lost job, break-up, family fight or just a bad fashion decision, they are the ones to point out all the reasons why we’re awesome. If we’re in the throes of one of our most exciting accomplishments, they are the first ones to want to jump up and down about it and if we’re too modest to brag, they will do it for us. Together we can be silly, serious, crazy, ridiculous, weepy, jubilant and everything in between.

Maybe this is why television and film writers really nail the best friend dynamic over and over. And, for me, there’s nothing better than watching a show or movie where I feel so connected to characters that it might as well be me and my own best friend joking around or having an emotional moment on the screen.

Here are some of the greatest things said between fictional best friends. Fictional best friends! They’re just like us.
