The Queens of “Ru Paul’s Drag Race All-Stars” recreated some unforgettable past VMA looks last night

Ru Paul’s Drag Race All Stars premiered last week, and if you’re not watching, you probably should be. Packed with standouts from previous seasons, the cast is phenomenal. The amazing group serves up comedy, fashion, and a whole lot of ~drama~ every episode, but last night, they were giving us déjà vu — in the form of some of the most memorable looks in VMA history.

These looks are all iconic: Lil Kim’s 1999 purple jumpsuit, Britney Spears’ 2001 “Slave 4 U” outfit (complete with a prop snake), and it’s fitting that these Drag Race icons took them on.

Phi Phi O’Hara, who was on point in a replica of Lady Gaga’s unforgettable 2010 meat dress, told People that the cast planned their looks together, explaining. “We wanted to pay tribute to the legends here.” However, these queens wouldn’t be the stars of Drag Race without there being a little drama.

“There was actually a lot of fighting. We all wanted to be Britney, but we decided to be kind and split it up.” O’Hara explained, and honestly, same.

Alaska got to be Britney, but everyone’s look hearkened back to a memorable past VMA moment.  Alyssa Edwards even took on Katy Perry’s 2014 denim look that paid homage to Britney’s 2001 denim ensemble, and that’s layers of VMA history, right there!

Other notable ensembles include Ginger Minj’s recreation of Madonna’s “Like a Virgin,” look, and Roxxxy Andrew’s take on Kim Kardasian West’s Balmain look, which she handmade with paint and rhinestones. Joked Andrews in a reference to Dolly Parton’s famous quote, “It costs a lot of money to look this cheap.

Slay, queens. SLAY.
