The queen says Harry and Meghan can return to the royal family any time
Yes, it’s true. Harry and Meghan are no longer part of the immediate royal family and are now unable to use the word “royal” in any of their branded material. However, there are seemingly no hard feelings between the Sussexes and Queen Elizabeth II. Phew!
In fact, according to a royal source per The Sun, the Queen reportedly told Harry that he and Meghan Markle “will always be welcomed back” if they choose to pick up their royal status later on in life.
The Sun’s Dan Wootton reported on March 2nd that Harry joined his grandmother for lunch on March 1st, during which they finalized plans for he and Meghan to formally exit from their royal positions. A source told Wootton that meeting most likely “cleared the air” between grandson and grandmother, and the Queen reportedly told Harry, “You are very much loved” and welcome to come back any time.
“The Queen had a lot to talk to Harry about and this was the ideal time for them to both say their piece,” the source said. “Sunday was the first time the Queen has had the chance to talk to Harry on his own and really find out what his plans are. It was a much more relaxed environment and they were both able to speak their mind.”
Furthermore, the Queen has come to terms with the fact that Harry and Meghan have decided to move to North America. And although she’s saddened to see less of her grandson Archie, she understands the reason behind the Sussexes decision and wishes nothing but the best for them.
The source noted that Harry is “a much-loved grandson who [The Queen] has always doted on.”
Harry and Meghan will attend their final event as senior royals next week to celebrate Commonwealth Day. Then plans will be put into motion as the couple begins their new life away from the palace. Like the Queen, we’re sad to see them go, but excited as to what they have in store for the future.
