The Queen has apparently gifted Harry and Meghan a decadent new home
It’s no secret that Meghan Markle’s life has changed a lot since she married Prince Harry back in May. The pair have been traveling pretty much non-stop since they said their “I Do’s,” and a new report suggests that Queen Elizabeth has gifted the newlyweds a brand new place to live…but this isn’t your average starter home.
According to the Daily Mail, the queen is giving them a very special token: Adelaide Cottage on the grounds of Windsor Castle. And while called a “cottage,” the home is actually more like a mansion. Its features include a “coved ceiling with gilded dolphins and rope ornament from a 19th Century Royal yacht,” as well as a “marble Graeco-Egyptian fireplace.”
Adelaide Cottage was built in 1831 and has housed plenty of royal dignitaries over the years (including Princess Margaret’s beau, Group Captain Peter Townsend). After a recent renovation in 2015, the sprawling structure offers the newlyweds plenty of peace and quiet, thanks to the fact that it’s located about 40 minutes outside of the hustle and bustle of London and has seven (yes, seven) gated entrances.
The royal family has declined to comment on the report, but given that the couple currently lives in the two-bedroom Nottingham Cottage on the grounds of Kensington Palace (in close proximity to the rest of the family), it wouldn’t be crazy for them to relocate to somewhere more private.
