We’re ‘painted purple’ today for International Women’s Day!

Everybody bust out your party hats and confetti cannons, because it is International Women’s Day today! Hip hip hooray times infinity plus one! As some of you may know, March is Women’s History Month, and March 8th, International Women’s Day, fits oh-so-nicely into the month as both an awesome opportunity to celebrate all the wonderful things women have done for this world while at the same time highlighting the hurdles we still need to jump over in order to achieve gender equality.

To support this monumental event, Hello Giggles is adding a bit of purple to our site for the entire day in honor of International Women’s Day’s #PaintItPurple movement. (Go ahead, click on the purple parts and see where it takes you!)

So why purple? As the International Women’s Day website explains:

“From 1908, the Women’s Social and Political Union (WSPU) in Great Britain adopted the colour scheme of purple, white and green to symbolise the plight of the Suffragettes. Purple symbolized justice and dignity—two values strongly associated with women’s equality.”

Purple is the IWD’s color of choice, and today, in support of the fight for gender equality, we’re showing solidarity. All over the Internet, you’ll see websites, blogs, and social media getting their purple on in celebration of women and equality. Offline too, people are going to busting out their purple shirts, socks, lipsticks and eyeshadows, and rocking the purp for a good cause.

So #paintitpurple with us, on and offline! And, of course, along with all that good stuff about justice and dignity, we all know that purple is the color of royalty and WE ARE ALL QUEENS on International Women’s Day, and every day preceding and following it, natch and natch.
