We’re obsessed with the Pumi, the adorable, fluffy new dog breed

Though all dogs are the best and giving a rescue dog a home no matter the breed is so, so amazing, it’s still super fun to feast your eyes on the adorable breeds out there. Earlier this year, the American Kennel Club recognized the Sloughi and the American Hairless Terrier and this week, the club has introduced the 190th breed: the Pumi. And guys, the Pumi is a ball of happy, precious fluffiness. false

According to the American Kennel Club, the Pumi is a “energetic, lively, and [ready-to-work]” herding breed that originates in Hungary. “We’re thrilled to have the Pumi receive full AKC recognition,” American Kennel Club Vice President Gina DiNardo said.  “This lively, adorable dog makes a wonderful companion for a family willing to provide lots of exercise and mental activity.”

Being recognized by the American Kennel Club makes these poofy fellas able to compete in national dog shows, but they’ve been around long before the club recognized them. In fact, there’s even a Hungarian Pumi Club of America. “They’re so smart, so eager to please, active, they just love life. They’re very forgiving, they don’t hold a grudge, they’re easy to train,” Chris Levy, president of the club and owner of nine pumik (that’s the plural, FYI), told BBC. “. . . They need daily exercise and they also need mental stimulation. This is not a breed that will just lay around all day.” false

According to the American Kennel Club, the breed has fur that can come in many colors and is “a combination of wavy and curly hair, forming corkscrews or curls all over the body.” Pumik have “a long head with semi-erect ears, a whimsical expression and a tail that forms a circle over the back.”

Oh, and they’re ADORABLE: false

Yep, we’re officially in love.
