I Skip Therapy and See a Psychic Instead—Here are 4 Reasons It’s Way Better
Spiritual advisers are a great alternative and can give you the guidance you're looking for.
Ok, hear me out. I’m not talking about Miss Cleo or phoning up the psychic hotline (do those even exist anymore?). There are hundreds, if not thousands, of people who claim to be able to see the future, hear voices or signs from spirits of loved ones who have passed, and have other forms of clairvoyance. These people are most commonly known as psychics or psychic mediums.
Psychics claim to predict or have premonitions about the future, whereas mediums typically channel spirits. Some can do both, and use a variety of tools including tarot cards.
Whether you believe that this type of special power exists or you think it’s a bunch of hocus pocus, I believe it can be a great tool to add to your arsenal of mental and emotional health and wellness practices.

In fact, I’ve been consulting with a psychic medium person for several years now. I refer to him as my “spiritual advisor,” and he’s helped me through basically every major event in my life including my divorce, subsequent relationship, and the death of my stepdad.
He also assisted in the investigation of the tragic murder of a very good friend of mine several years ago, and generally helped me and her family get through it.
His name is Adam Bernstein.
By all accounts, he’s just like a regular guy. If you saw him on the street, you’d likely never know he has any sort of “special powers.” But I believe he can see, feel, and hear things that others cannot, and in turn, he uses those gifts to help others.
Here are four reasons I skip therapy and see a psychic instead.
Reason #1: I get a lot more insight.
Therapists are supposed to be objective and present a neutral opinion. Your spiritual adviser may do the same but will offer some extra insight your therapist cannot, such as what your deceased dad thinks of your new boyfriend (get ready for brutal honesty) or if he really is over his ex or not.
They can also help you to better listen to your own intuition or “inner voice,” and hone your own potential abilities.
Reason #2: They call bulls*$&.
You may be able to lie to yourself, and you may be able to lie to your therapist, but don’t ever try to lie to your psychic. They’ll see right through you, quite literally.
Your psychic can tap into how you’re feeling and if you’re being honest with yourself and them. This is exactly what you need to move on from that abusive relationship or bad boss.
Reason #3: They can help you decide your next move.
Since they often have the ability to see or predict the future, psychics may know what’s best for you before you do.
While there’s always free will and you’re not relegated to take their advice, it can be something to consider—especially if you’re deciding between two courses of action, like say, two job offers that both seem great.
Reason #4: They can help you stay positive.
Whether you’re going through a tough time or you’re just feeling stuck, staying positive can make all the difference. While a therapist may point out all sides of a situation, your spiritual adviser will help you look at the bright side and remain optimistic. Just that simple shift in perspective can shed new light or help you turn a bad situation into a learning experience.
Psychics will often encourage practicing gratitude and/or meditation instead of just listening to you vent about your spouse constantly leaving dirty dishes in the sink. You’ll realize there’s something else out there besides your own little bubble, and you’ll see the bigger picture (like way bigger… universe-and-beyond big!).
Bottom Line
Remember to go to someone who’s highly recommended by someone you know (or at the very least, google them and/or check out their Yelp reviews!). There are plenty of scam artists out there and I’d want to make sure you’re in good hands.
