This PSA about a woman who’s 260 weeks pregnant is incredibly funny — and incredibly sobering
Given how advanced our country is in so many ways, you’d assume that every workplace would offer paid maternity and paternity leave for families.
But that’s not the case, and we just stumbled upon this brilliant PSA for paid family leave that perfectly captures why it’s so absurd.
It’s about a woman named Lauren, a paralegal in Denver, who we learn is one of 86% of people with a job that doesn’t provide maternity leave to its employees. The hook is that Lauren is 260 weeks pregnant. As in, since neither she nor her husband get paid time off for childbirth, she decides to, ya know…stay pregnant until the baby is old enough to start school.

Okay, funny and insanely creative? Yes. Utterly sobering and important, bigger yes.
"They talked about moving to a country that does have paid family leave, which is almost every country except the United States, but Lauren isn't allowed to fly since 2012," the narrator says.
We’re loving this video, because it truly highlights the absolute absurdity of the situation. People have to have babies — it’s kinda, you know, necessary for the survival of our society. So that being said, our society should support families when they do so. In the long run, everybody wins.
Ultimately, this PSA is encouraging Americans who support paid family leave to take action through the National Partnership for Women & Families. We’re hoping the message will be spread far and wide, and hopefully those in power will take note. In the meantime, let’s keep this vitally important conversation going!
