The proposal video that made us cry real tears
Few things tug at our heartstrings quite like proposal videos. These intimate and sweet moments are so full of joy and love that it’s hard not to get teary-eyed. But the latest video to make the Internet rounds is a whole new level of emotional.
Tylor Shelton and Haylee Rose met in middle school and had been dating for seven years when Tyler decided to propose. The video blogger (who incidentally is tracking every day of his 20s on YouTube) wanted to ask Haylee’s father, Greg, for his blessing. Sadly, Greg passed away last spring, before Tyler could have that conversation with him. But he still wanted to make Greg part of the big moment, and came up with this heartwarming way to do so.
In the video, Tylor asks all of Haylee’s siblings for their blessing, then reads an open letter to Greg himself.
“I’m going to marry your daughter,” he says in a voiceover while moments from his past seven years with Haylee play on the screen. “I always thought of how I was going to ask for your blessing one day, and now that day is here. I wish you were here to hand your baby girl off to me, so I promise to be more than you would ever want me to be.”
“I want to be the man who shares her love and patience and gives her everything she needs,” he continues. “I’ll tell her exactly how beautiful she is, and I’ll show her how to believe in herself. I will take care of her. I want to give her experiences people only dream of, and love her unconditionally, because I wouldn’t want to see the world with anybody else.”
Then, and only then, does he pop the question.
The video has racked up almost 600,000 views since it was posted a few weeks ago, busting out headlines across the Internet. But Tyler’s just happy that Greg is getting the acknowledgement he deserves.
“The reason I wanted to make it was because I didn’t want to just let it go unnoticed that we’re going on without him,” he told TODAY. “This is a big point in both of our lives and I didn’t want to sweep that under the rug…I wanted to recognize that Greg was a big part of our lives.”
Tissues please.
