We’ve all been pronouncing “Nutella” wrong. Oops.
You say nuh-tell-uh and I say…new-tell-uh? If you’ve been pronouncing it with a NUT at the beginning, you’ve apparently been saying the name of this delicious spread all wrong. Ferrero (the company who own Nutella) have revealed this information in a new ad. Apparently this has always been on the FAQ on their website and we simply never noticed. (They also recommend you store it at room temperature, in case you’ve been keeping yours in the fridge.)
The Nutella commercial, released in Italy, makes it clear NEWtella is delicious and, uh, not pronounced like “nut.” If this seems counter-intuitive since the product is made with hazelnuts, we are right there with you.
The company told Buzzfeed, “Ferrero aren’t trying to encourage a common worldwide pronunciation on this. In the UK we call it and pronounce it ‘Nutella’ as do consumers. The US pronunciation is just for them.
Soooooo, that is the best excuse we’ve heard all day to immediately begin using a fake British accent and eat some Nutella.
According to their FAQ, Nutella is peanut- and gluten-free, as well as kosher. It’s basically a health food with chocolate in it, so call it whatever you want. We’re sticking with calling it delicious!
