Priyanka Chopra is dedicated to helping the next generation of women feel equal to men in Hollywood
Quantico star Priyanka Chopra is helping the next generation of women in Hollywood. And, with her success speaking for itself, she aims to do so by creating more content for women. Despite facing hardships herself, like being considered “too ethnic” for a movie role, she continues to rise above and set an inspiring example for her fellow actresses.
Chopra says she’s “digging her feet in” to establish more gender equality in Tinseltown.
"We're so far behind," Chopra told Entertainment Tonight. "I mean we just had Wonder Woman, which is our first big major female superhero movie directed by a female. We've just had one director that's ever won an Academy Award who is female ever in the history of entertainment. I mean, come on!"
Last week, the actress was promoting her latest project Pahuna: The Little Visitors at the Toronto International Film Festival. She gave TIFF props, saying they’re “doing their bit to help females in entertainment.”
Chopra reminded us that it’s ok to ask for help sometimes.
"Because we need help, we need people saying, 'You know what? You're just good. It doesn't matter what your gender is' And it's so awesome to see that!"
In addition to women just being good on their own, Chopra feels that it’s important that there are roles written *for* women.
"It's gonna take people like me, like a lot of other women out there, to make it easier for the next generation where they don't have to feel like, 'Oh, there are not parts written for us. We always have to stand behind the guy.' [We have to] create parts for ourselves because nobody else is gonna do it."
Gender equality also came up while discussing her good friend Megan Markle’s recent Vanity Fair cover.
"I mean, she's on the cover of Vanity Fair. It would have been nice to write about her not just her boyfriend," Chopra said. "It's just a little sexist. Look, I'm a feminist and I love boys, okay...The only thing I'm saying is that there needs to be a certain sense of equality where a woman is not just a plus one, you know. It's nice to be your own identity too."
It’s important to have strong women like Priyanka to look up to. With a never-settle attitude, women like her are going to take Hollywood by storm!
