The principal of that school with the viral dress code protest thinks it’s “awesome” that students fought back

What would you do if you woke up late and couldn’t roll into yoga pants and out the door? Panic, right? The female students at a Massachusetts high school felt similarly after their district banned girls from wearing yoga pants to class. So, 200 of the affected students decided to make a change. They created an event called “First Day = Yoga Pants,” which is all about breaking the dress code on the September 2, the first day of school.

The description is loud and clear: “We can’t help we were born girls and we shouldn’t have to pay for it either because boys can’t ‘control’ themselves.” And you know what? Their principal heard them.

Principal William Terranova told PEOPLE he was “impressed” by the initiative.

So, they’ve made a bit of a change. While the school is still against girls wearing only leggings or yoga pants, they are now allowed to wear them under skirts, dresses or shorts. But does this really fix the problem? The mission of the event was to remove the unfair burden placed on female students to cater to the sexist, inappropriate, and let’s not forget hypothetical thoughts of their peers. This compromise doesn’t necessarily address that problem.

We’ll just have to wait and see how it all plays out on September 2. Until then, it’s yoga pants and Netflix ‘erryday.
