A Princess Diana documentary is in the works, and we’re sure it’ll be incredible
It’s been announced that this August, around the 20th anniversary of her death, a special four hour documentary about Princess Diana will air on ABC.
Last month it was revealed that in commemoration of the anniversary of the Princess of Wales’ death, the U.K. would be getting a special day, National Kindness Day, in celebration of Diana’s loving spirit. Meanwhile, an exhibit celebrating of the late-princess’s style will also open at Kensington Palace on February 24th, along with a memorial garden, too. It was also reported that The Diana Award, an organization established in 1999, will also host a year of events to celebrate Diana’s life and work.
Now it’s been reported by The Hollywood Reporter that a special two night, four-part television documentary event focused on Princess Diana will also occur later this year.
As THR state, the four-part series is a collaboration with ABC and People magazine, and will look at Diana’s life. The documentary is set to include interviews with prominent figures from the late princess’s life, archival footage, and interviews with experts on the royal family. The documentary mini-series will also look at Diana’s impact on society today, too.
"Princess Diana has appeared on the cover of People 57 times — more than anyone in the history of the People brand, said People’s Editor-in-Chief Jess Cagle. "“Our audience has an insatiable appetite for news about the royal family; in fact, they are just as fascinated today as they were when Lady Diana was first introduced to the world back in 1981.
The move from ABC comes following a string of successes with documentary specials. The alphabet network recently aired a news special Truth and Lies: The Menendez Brothers, while People and Time Inc are working on their own specials, including People Magazine Investigates for Investigation Discovery, Netflix’s The Mars Generation, PBS’ Beyond a Year in Space, The Making of SI Swimsuit 2017 for DirecTV Now, and Puppy Bowl: Where Are They Now on Animal Planet.
“Even 20 years after her untimely death, Princess Diana’s legacy continues to impact our world,” said Robert Mills, ABC’s senior VP alternate series, specials and late night. “Our special will honor her memory and all the good that she did in her tragically brief life. Our partners at People are perfect to tell this story as they’ve extensively covered her life throughout the years.”
Princess Diana sadly passed away on August 31st, 1997 following a tragic car accident in Paris. She was 36 years old, and left behind her two children, Prince William and Prince Harry.
We’re sure that the documentary mini-series will be incredible and, hopefully, a real celebration of Diana’s life and her work.
