Prince’s sister opened up about the eerie thing he said before his death
The world lost a real-life legend when pop icon Prince died on April 21st, 2016. And now, Prince’s sister, Tyka Nelson, is speaking out for the first time about his death, and says she believes he knew it was coming.
In an upcoming People and ABC special People Icons: Gone Too Soon, Tkya revealed that she thinks Prince had a premonition of sorts about the fact that he did not have much time left.
“About three years ago he called…He said, ‘I think I’ve done everything I’ve come to do. My dad and Prince always spoke in these types of riddles…He knew [he was going to die soon]. And he was preparing me. It’s very clear.
She went on to say, “He needed to go. He was tired. Instead of crying, dance. He didn’t like me to cry, so I don’t want them [the fans] to cry either.”
As we all now know, Prince died of what the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed was an accidental opioid overdose. And as heartbroken as we still are over the tremendous loss, hearing Nelson’s words somehow makes it all feel the smallest bit better. At least we know that Prince departed this world feeling as though he had accomplished what he wanted and was meant to do. Not everyone can say that, so there’s definitely some beauty in this knowledge.
The upcoming special People Icons: Gone Too Soon will also look back on the lives of other stars we’ve lost in recent years, like Patrick Swayze, Robin Williams, and the great Whitney Houston. It airs Tuesday, March 21st at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
