Prince William has no idea if he’s going to be Prince Harry’s best man

We thought it’d be a no-brainer, but it seems like Prince Harry never asked Prince William to be his best man. Maybe he wasn’t holding out for someone else but just figured that his brother would automatically fill the role. On the other hand, Prince Harry may never extend the offer — and here’s why.

According to an expert interviewed by Town and Country, it’s actually outside of protocol to ask someone to be your best man or maid of honor at a royal wedding. While Prince Harry has already done a few things that seem outside of protocol — for example, reportedly spending the holidays with Markle when she’s not officially a spouse as of yet — it was Prince William who broke the tradition with his own wedding back in 2011. During his wedding to Kate Middleton, he asked Prince Harry to step up as his best man, and Middleton had her sister Pippa by her side as well.

There is a royally approved way Prince William can help support his brother during his wedding — and that’s by being a “supporter,” which is a separate designated role.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding is officially set for May 19th, 2018, so we’re all curious to know what role Prince William will play.

"He hasn't asked me yet," he said. "So it could be a sensitive issue."

Well, now we have even more questions.

While we’re sure that Prince Harry would extend the offer if he chooses to utilize the “best man” role in May, Twitter had a few other speculations about why he was temporarily staying silent. And it has to do with someone else he’s been palling around with. false

Hopefully Prince William will understand if that’s the case.
