A new Prince Harry biography revealed a super sad detail about his love life

Before meeting the love of his life and soon-to-be wife Meghan Markle, Prince Harry had two serious relationships: one with Chelsy Davy and another with Cressida Bonas. But according to royal expert Katie Nicholl, author of the biography Harry: Life, Loss, and Love, his relationship with Davy in particular left a big impact. Apparently, Prince Harry was head over heels in love, but it didn’t work out because Davy didn’t want the life of a royal.

The two dated on and off for about six years before calling it quits around 2011. Years later in 2015, the couple reportedly gave their relationship another try. In the biography, sources told Nicholl that they “both hoped there might be a chance of a reconciliation,” and spent the better part of that summer trying to make it work. Ultimately, it didn’t, and the rest is history.

“You sort of get the feeling that neither of them were quite ever willing to completely let go of that love affair. They’d carved their names into one of the tree trunks on the family estate. It was such a love affair, it really was, Nicholl told InStyle. “Right up until 2015 they were trying to give it another chance. I was quite struck by that and I think everyone that’s been in love, you know, you never forget your first love, and in that respect I think Prince Harry was no different.

Nicholl went on to say that there’s no bad blood between Prince Harry and Davy and that the exes remain close.

“I think what’s so lovely is he still manages to have a friendship with Chelsy, and there’s that amazing respect between the two of them," she added. "Neither of them have spoken about their relationship and I think you have to respect and admire them for that."

So that might explain why there have been recent reports that Prince Harry plans to invite his ex-girlfriends to his wedding. However, the real question is, will they go? According to Nicholl, Davy might attend, but she’s not too sure about Bonas, since the English actress is not a big fan of the media attention.

We’ll just have to wait until May 19th to find out, but it’s nice to know that Prince Harry is the kind of guy who likes to remain on solid terms with his exes.
