Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding date has been announced, and the people of Britain are mad

Get your calendars ready, because we have a wedding to get ready for: Kensington Palace has officially announced the royal wedding date for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. The couple will get married on Saturday, May 19th, 2018 at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.

And while we’re excited that the event is taking place on a weekend so that we can watch/absorb every minute detail, many in Britain are distinctly not happy with their choice of wedding day. Often, royal weddings take place on weekdays and are declared “bank” holidays…meaning everyone gets the day off work. But a Saturday wedding means no time off. And no time off means an irked British public.

Sorry, England. We feel your pain…but we’re also admittedly giddy about this.

Before the ceremony, Markle will be baptized and confirmed in the Church of England. This is the first time a British royal will marry an American in 81 years. The story of Harry and Markle’s relationship is definitely a fan favorite: They met in July 2016 when introduced by a mutual friend, and Prince Harry proposed to Markle in early November 2017. After the wedding, Harry and Markle will live in Nottingham Cottage on the grounds of London’s Kensington Palace, which is the official residence of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

While the royal wedding will be markedly different from that of Prince William and Kate Middleton (it will be smaller, won’t be held in London, and, of course, won’t be a bank holiday), we have a feeling it will be equally unforgettable.
