Here’s what the ‘Pretty Woman’ cast is up to today (25 years later!)
How many times have you seen Pretty Woman? If it’s upwards of 15 times then you’re in really good company. The movie is a full-fledged classic (even if when we really break it down the premise is kind of like “what?”). Still, 25 years since the flick first hit the big screen, audiences are still full-soul charmed by Vivian and Edward and their unconventional love story.
In honor of the movie’s anniversary our morning-TV-dad Matt Lauer interviewed the Pretty Woman gang en mass (where was Jason Alexander though?) to ask them about the experience, the bonds, the memories. The interview airs next Tuesday, the 24th, on Today so consider this your DVR warning
As we patiently wait for that interview, we thought we’d do a little Pretty Woman memory lane-ing ourselves. Namely, what has the cast been up to for the last 25 years? Where are these people we love so much? Let’s have a look see at the stars we’ll see reuning next week. 25 years hasn’t tarnished our Pretty Woman love.
Vivian Ward aka Julia Roberts
It’s hard to imagine that at one time, Julia Roberts wasn’t the huge star that she is today. Before Pretty Woman, she was in Mystic Pizza and Steel Magnolias, but neither one of those movies made her a huge star. Pretty Woman, however, made her a HUGE STAR — and revisiting the movie it’s super easy to see why. Where is she now? Starring in all of our favorite movies: My Best Friend’s Wedding, Runaway Bride, Notting Hill, Ocean’s 11, Stepmom. She’s also gotten tons of nominations lately for her heavier hitting roles in movies like August Osage County and the HBO joint Normal Heart.
Edward Lewis aka Richard Gere
We all agree that Richard Gere is a dreamboat no matter what age, right? When he starred in Pretty Woman, he was a much bigger star than Julia, and he continues to be a movie staple. Remember when he so expertly played Billy Flynn in Chicago? BRB, going to go re-watch that again. You can go see Richard right this instant in theaters if you check out The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.
Barney Thompson aka Hector Elizondo
Hector Elizondo might be the unsung hero of Pretty Woman, because he sees Vivian not as just another girl coming in and out of the hotel, but as someone special. I like to think that Vivian and hotel manager Barney still keep in touch today. Since Pretty Woman, you’ve likely seen Hector everywhere. He was of course Joe in both Princess Diaries movies, and had recurring roles on both Monk and Grey’s Anatomy.
Kit De Luca aka Laura San Giacomo
Laura San Giacomo plays Kit, Vivian’s best friend — we loved her so truly. Honestly, it doesn’t look like Laura has aged at all since filming Pretty Woman. Work-wise, since the early ’90s, Laura has done tons of TV movies and had dozens of roles all across television. You might remember her few episode stint playing Keith Mars’ girlfriend on Veronica Mars.
Garry Marshall (The director!)
Garry Marshall should be hailed as an American treasure. First, he worked on all the amazing TV shows of yesteryear, like Laverne & Shirley, Mork & Mindy, Happy Days, and the original Odd Couple. And then let’s talk about how he did both Princess Diaries movies, and our other faves New Years Eve and Valentine’s Day. Is there such a thing as being a Garry Marshall superfan? Because I think that might be us.
