The Pretty Little Liars spinoff is officially happening — and it’s going to be just as bonkers as the original
Got a secret, can you keep it, swear this one you’ll…actually, you know what, scratch that. It’s no longer a secret. The hotly-anticipated Pretty Little Liars spinoff Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists is finally happening, and it has a trailer to prove it. Freeform, the network that served as the home of Pretty Little Liars for seven whole seasons, announced today that it has ordered 10 episodes of the series, which is expected to debut sometime in 2019.
The Perfectionists will feature familiar faces, with Sasha Pieterse and Janel Parrish reprising their roles as Alison and Mona. The two will star alongside Sofia Carson (Disney’s Descendants), Sydney Park (The Walking Dead), newcomer Eli Brown, Graeme Thomas King (The Widow), Kelly Rutherford (Gossip Girl), and Hayley Erin (General Hospital).
Like its predecessor, The Perfectionists is based on a book series penned by Sara Shepard. But instead of Rosewood, the story will take us to Beacon Heights, a seemingly perfect town where a group of three college friends tries to grapple with the stress and pressure of maintaining their status as overachievers. As the news of the town’s first murder surface, we find out that each Perfectionist hides “a secret, a lie, and an alibi.” From the looks of it, it seems like The Perfectionists is essentially Pretty Little Liars meets Riverdale, with a dash of How to Get Away With Murder, and we’re SO here for it.

The genius that is I. Marlene King wrote the pilot episode and will serve as the showrunner and executive producer, along with Charlie Craig (Pretty Little Liars, The 100), Lisa Cochran-Neilan (Pretty Little Liars, Famous in Love), Leslie Morgenstein (Pretty Little Liars, The Vampire Diaries) and Gina Girolamo (The 100, The Originals). Elizabeth Allen Rosenbaum directed the pilot.
We still have a long way until The Perfectionists hits our television screens, so while waiting, we’ll be here hitting the shelves and binge-watching PLL while at it!
