This preschool couple reunited 30 years later, proving true love exists

Like a lot of modern couples, Amy Giberson and Justin Pounders, both 33, met online. From the moment Justin first saw Amy’s photo on a dating website, he had a feeling she was someone special. He told People, “I saw her photo and for whatever reason, was instantly drawn to her. She just had this great energy, you could tell. I can’t explain it, but I knew I had to get to know this girl.”

What neither Justin or Amy knew at the time was that they already knew each other. In fact, they’d known each other since they were only three years old.

They both attended Sunshine Preschool in St. Petersburg, Florida, where they were…wait for it…childhood sweethearts. (Hold on, we’re getting serious heart eyes!) They were apparently so adorable together that their former teacher, Diane Twar, still remembers them. “They had a blast with each other. It was a quiet, bashful romance. They liked each other from afar, it was a young love, like a sweet crush, you know? They insisted on sitting next to each other in our school picture.”

That might be the cutest thing we’ve ever heard! But alas, Pre-K graduation loomed. Little Justin and Amy went to different elementary schools and eventually lost touch with one another…until Justin stumbled upon her picture online.

He contacted Amy. A lot of texts and phone calls ensued (natch) and they eventually met in person. They didn’t recognize each other from their preschool romance, though. Because hey, people in their thirties look a tad bit different than they did when they were three years old. But somewhere beneath the surface, those old feelings were still there. “Of course, at that point, we still didn’t know we had been pre-K sweethearts, but when we met up and we hugged, it was like I had known him my whole life. When I first saw him, I felt that I was staring at the man I was going to marry,” Amy said.

It wasn’t until they’d been dating for an entire year that they finally put two and two together. Justin mentioned how much he loved Amy’s name because he’d once had a crush on a girl named Amy in preschool. (As much as we might not love our S.O.s talking about old flames, this is all kinds of adorable.) As he kept talking, Amy realized they’d gone to the exact same preschool. After some investigation, they discovered that Amy was Justin’s old crush. She was THE Amy.

“We asked our parents to dig up any preschool photos they had. Justin’s mom found a photo of the two of us together and I just started crying, I was ecstatic. I was the Amy he had liked all those years ago! It was definitely meant to be,” Amy said in her interview with People.

Meant to be indeed. This story makes us feel all the feelings, guys. And for some reason, it also makes us want to dig up our old preschool pics. You know, just in case.
