The “Power Rangers” trailer was recut to be *extra* Mighty Morphin’, and we’re all about it

If the new Power Rangers movie is giving you nostalgia feels, just wait until you see an actual mesh of the old and new versions. That’s right: the Power Rangers trailer was recut to match the TV intro. We were already really into the new Power Rangers trailer, but this takes it to a whole new level. If you were a fan of the original series as a kid, this version will seriously make you cheer.

We’ve been cautiously optimistic about the Power Rangers reboot. When we saw the new trailer last week, we became full-blown excited. This new video takes that enthusiasm and supercharges it with nostalgia, in the best way.

Basically, YouTuber Sebastian Hughes edited footage from the new trailer to match up as closely as possible with the opening of the TV show. He also placed the audio from the original over the new footage. Here’s the show’s intro, in case you need a refresher:

TBH, it doesn’t hold up that well. It’s a little silly. While camp is great, those original Power Rangers aren’t quite as badass as we remembered. Still, though, we’d be lying if we said we don’t still get a *little* pumped watching the show’s intro. Now, here’s Hughes’ version:

Let’s be honest, it is totally awesome. The action sequences and solidly diverse cast are improvements on the original show. Also, Elizabeth Banks’ witchy, terrifying Rita Repulsa is the perfect kickoff for this version. Not that we don’t heart the original Rita and her iconic look.

We only have one criticism of the recut trailer: there’s not enough of Bryan Cranston’s weirdly fatherly Zordon. He’s a HUGE reason we can’t wait for the reboot.

The Power Rangers reboot will hit theaters in March, so we don’t have long to wait. Till then, we’ll keep watching this recut trailer — and having a mighty morphin’ good time.
