Postmodern Jukebox’s cover of “Welcome to the Jungle” is exactly what we needed

And now for something completely different! YouTube cover band Postmodern Jukebox have released a cover of Guns ‘N Roses ’80s hair metal anthem “Welcome to the Jungle” that is such a vivid, imaginative reinterpretation that we barely recognize it! Really, you need to hear this.

Vocalist Daniela Andrade and the band take this rock classic and set it to a 1940s jazz interpretation, with a dash of big band influence. Her slowed-down, sultry delivery, singing just a half a beat behind the song adds a different kind of tension than Axl’s original angsty vocal stylings. Plus, flipping this song about Hollywood, the Jungle, to a female point of view gives it new dimension. For those who remember the original music video, it follows a fresh-off-the-bus from the sticks Axl as he discovers the dark and weird side of the city that would bring him his fame and fortune.

We’ve gotta admit, we always thought “Welcome to the Jungle” would be way better if they killed off the lead guitar and threw some harp on it. Okay not really, but now that we’ve heard this version we’re rewriting history a little.

You know where you are? You’re in the jungle, baby. And you’re gonna…swing.
