These women posed nude and covered themselves in glitter, and their reason for doing it will inspire you (NSFW)

Every single person has their own body image issues they’re fighting. No one is perfect, and thanks to society’s unrealistic beauty standards, many of us are left feeling subpar about our own bodies. This is where glitter comes in. The #PositivelyGlittered project was started by Roseanna Mae as a way for women to celebrate their bodies. By posing nude and covered in glitter, these women are reclaiming their relationships with their bodies in a striking, unconventional, and fun way.

By including a diverse range of women in their shoots, Positively Glittered highlights that every body is a beautiful body. Women gather for “glitter shoots,” during which they’re covered in glitter while nude and photographed alongside one another, which is then documented on Instagram.

The project takes into consideration how each woman wants to be represented on the page, since some can’t have nude photos of them on the internet. This in itself is a way for these women to reclaim their power, since they can pick how they want to be seen. As far as the reason glitter is chosen instead of another medium, like paint? As Roseanna says in an interview with Mashable:

"We cover ourselves in glitter because glitter is so striking, beautiful, and really gets the girls wanting to be involved. It is a way to be naked, without being entirely naked."

The whole point of this experience is to remind each woman of her inherent beauty, with some help from glitter, because as Roseanna explains, it enhances each woman’s own beauty. She continues,

"Some girls have body image issues, and this is such a fantastic way to aid in the journey of accepting yourself, others have personal trauma that the glitter is a step in the direction of feeling comfortable in themselves again."

Every body is beautiful, and how can you not feel that way when all-over glitter is involved?

While the next #PositivelyGlittered event will be in Brisbane, we’re hoping that soon these will make their way across the pond. Until then, we’ll be buying our own glitter and cooing over these stunning images.
