An official poll shows most women think Trump is doing a bad job, and duh
To call Donald Trump a divisive figure would probably be the understatement of the century. The 45th president’s alleged sexual assault, vulgar comments, and sexist political views seem to have made him particularly unpopular among women. And we have a new official poll to prove it.
The most recent Washington Post-Schar School poll, published on July 6th, reveals that 65% of women disapprove of what Trump has done as president. Meanwhile, over half of men approve of Trump, with 54% holding a favorable view of the job he’s done so far. The Post notes that the gender gap even exists among Republicans, who overall view Trump with high favorability. While 91% of Republican men approve of Trump to some degree, only 82% of Republican women feel the same.
There has always been a gender divide in Trump’s approval ratings. The website FiveThirtyEight found that in February 2017, 53% of men approved of Trump, while only 38% of women did. And women of color had especially low opinions of him. In January, only 11% of black women approved of Trump, according to The Atlantic. He also has incredibly low support among millennial women. FiveThirtyEight reported that a PRRI survey from March found that 76% of women 18 to 34 have an unfavorable opinion of Trump to some degree — the lowest rating among any age demographic.

Given that the midterm elections in November could alter the party makeup of Congress, Trump’s low favorability among women might mean bad news for Republicans. But they have to vote for that to happen. According to data from the Pew Research Center, millennials and Gen-Xers are less likely than other generations to vote in midterm elections, even though they make up a majority of voters.

Women, especially young women, have the power to vote Trump’s allies out of Congress this year. So keep that in mind the next time you feel like your vote doesn’t matter, and no matter your views, be sure to vote in the 2018 midterm elections this November.
