The internet is having fun with Pokémon Go, the new app that lets you be an IRL trainer

Pokémon fans all over the United States have been trying out Pokémon Go, the app which uses GPS tracking and your smartphone’s camera to help you find (and battle!) Pokémon in your own world. The app was made available to download in the U.S. on IOS and Android on Wednesday night, and if you notice even more people than usual staring down at their phones while walking around the streets, it’s because they’re trying to catch up to a wild Pidgey a few blocks down.

If you’ve been on social media lately, you’ve probably noticed that people are kinda sorta freaking out about this game — maybe because it’s finally allowing Pokémon fans to be an IRL Ash looking for their very own Pikachu. false

You can customize your own trainer avatar, get a starter Pokémon (yes, one of the three classics: Bulbasaur, Squirtle, or Charmander), and find Pokémon in your own world. You find different Pokémon in different cities/states/countries, and even at a different time of the day. (So if you notice people running around at night, don’t worry — The Purge isn’t happening). false

As you can probably imagine, the internet is having a LOT of fun with this. Some have been finding Pokémon in ~weird~ places. false false false

The app has also been making people more active, making walks and runs a much more fun experience. false false false false

Even family dogs are benefiting. . . kinda. false

The only problem? So many people have been excited about the app that the servers went down a few times, much to the disappointment of many. false false

But once everything’s good to go, you’ll be running around catching Pokémon ever. Just make sure to be careful out there: false

And try not to develop *too* much of a crush on Professor Willow, because that’s one hot professor. false

You can download the app here. Happy catching! Go out and be the very best, like no one ever was.
