A playlist for daydreaming and the future ahead
Welcome to This Week’s Playlist, where we look to current events for some melodic curation inspiration. Tune in every Monday for a mix of news, commentary, and of course, music.
It’s getting to be that time of the year when everybody’s just waiting to get to summer. Yes, the temperature is finally going up and you’re winding down with school, but prom’s in the air and graduation is right around the corner, and even if you aren’t the one picking out your cap and gown, it’s impossible not to think about these changes and the fact that time has really, truly, moved on since the beginning of the year.
What’s easier than confronting these realities: A good old-fashioned daydream to take you out of school, work, extracurriculars, parents, everything. These are songs that tackle everything from teenage ennui to not knowing “what we are,” in every sense of the phrase, as well as an all-time album closer best. Close your eyes, put on your headphones, and forget, for even just a moment, everything you’re supposed to do. Cause it’s all been done and it’s all been said / we’re the coolest kids and we take what we can get.
