Playboy just featured a woman in a hijab in their magazine for the first time and we are LOVING everything about it

Despite its reputation, Playboy just featured a beautiful, bold woman who didn’t strip down anything for her story. In fact, she actually wore more clothing than the average woman by covering her head with a traditional hijab. And, surprisingly, the magazine that famously touts variations on birthday suits was all about it.

Noor Tagouri is a Libyan American, a journalist, and a hijabi Muslim woman. She also happens to be a 2016 Playboy “Renegade” who is boldly shattering stereotypes.

Tagouri revealed her beautiful soul to Playboy in an enlightening interview about who she is, what she wants, and how her unique perspective (mixed with a healthy dose of intelligence and tenacity) is helping her get there. Her career goal is to be the first hijab-wearing news anchor, which would be an accomplishment much more important than simple personal ambition.

She fearlessly delves into dark worlds in order to tell intense stories that would not otherwise be told. And she uses her own personal experiences to connect to people who might otherwise be weary of journalists poking around in their business.

She says, "To be honest, I think being a hijabi Muslim woman, helped me gain that [personal] trust. I know what it’s like to have the narrative of our community be skewed and exploited in the media. I was like, 'Hey, I know what it’s like to be misrepresented in the media. I won’t do that to you. I want to tell your story because it’s important and deserves justice.'"

Part of the reason she works so hard to tell stories of people who are marginalized by society is because she knows the good that can come from their voices being heard.

She explains, "I know first-hand that once people are re-empowered, they realize their own story is powerful and they begin to share. It’s incredibly rewarding and can even help enlighten or save others."

Tagouri does not just bring other people’s stories to life. She also eloquently talks about her own individuality and incredible point-of-view on her YouTube channel and in a popular Tedx talk.
