The 2006 hit single “Hey There Delilah” might become a TV show, because the world is strange
Ah, 2006. Facebook and Twitter didn’t exist, Heroes was still on TV, and “Hey There Delilah” by Plain White T’s was the song of the hour. Things have gotten a lot more complicated in the 12 years since then, and while we’ll never be able to return to that simpler time, we might soon be able to relive one of the year’s biggest pop-punk hits, because a “Hey There Delilah” TV series is reportedly in the works.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Plain White T’s themselves have joined forces with Lively McCabe Entertainment and Primary Wave to create the script for a new “romantic dramedy” based loosely on the band’s hit single. Lead singer and songwriter Tom Higgenson collaborated with writer Jeremy Desmon and Lively McCabe’s Michael Barra to come up with the concept of the show, which will elaborate on the long-distance relationship between a budding singer-songwriter and an N.Y.C. college student depicted in the original song.
"It’s been more than a decade since "Hey There Delilah" was released, and people always ask me about it," Higgenson said in a statement to Rolling Stone. "A whole lot of people really connected with that song, and I’m very proud of that. I’m so excited to have an opportunity to give a new generation the chance to form their own connection with the song, and fall in love with its story through this new project."

“Hey There Delilah” was one of The Plain White T’s biggest hits, remaining on the Billboard Hot 100 for 35 weeks and peaking at number one in July 2007. In the years since the song’s debut, the band has stayed busy. They received a Best Original Score nomination at the 2018 Tony Awards for collaborating on SpongeBob SquarePants: The Musical, and they’re currently at work promoting their new album, which will be released on August 24th.

We still have so many questions about the potential new “Hey There Delilah” TV show. Will the lead actually write Delilah a song? And will he ever pay the bills with his guitar? Looks like we’ll have to wait and see.
