We are all about this women-powered music collective because ladies are strong as hell
Get ready Los Angeles, because everyone’s favorite feminist musical showcase is turning one. Play Like a Girl (PLAG), a music collective that features various musical acts at their monthly showcases is celebrating its birthday with a massive showcase on May 27th at the Echo and the Echoplex in Los Angeles.
PLAG has teamed up with Super Deluxe, a Los Angeles-based independent entertainment company, to put on the event, which will include food trucks, virtual reality games, and a ton of surprises. The showcase itself, which will solely feature female or non-binary fronted acts, will be headlined by L.A.-based punk rock band Kitten, with various musical and comedy performances throughout the day.

The collective, which gives those who identify as women and gender non-conforming a platform and safe space to showcase their music and art, has been widely successful. PLAG, which also runs a record label, will release its first compilation at the showcase, featuring PLAG artists, alum, and other local bands.
“We started PLAG because we wanted to create a safe space for women to connect and create," said PLAG co-founder Kimi Recor, of the event. "To see our community grow into this incredible force over the last year has been nothing short of amazing, and I’m so proud to be part of this amazing creative female-fronted movement."

Because one of PLAG’s main goals as a collective is to provide safe space for people who identify as women or gender non-conforming, the showcase will also be selling anniversary merchandise and a raffle with incredible prizes from local businesses and company, with the proceeds going to Trans Alliance Ventura, a support and resource provider in Ventura County, California.
