Uh oh, you might have to wait ~maybe~ forever for one of these Pixar sequels

Pixar make a lot of films, and have released many sequels that are just as good, if not better than the original. Finding Dory is currently playing in theaters and receiving high praise, and there’s a few more sequels coming up, including Cars 3, Toy Story 4, and The Incredibles 2. But what about the highly-anticipated sequels to Ratatouille, Wall-E, and Inside Out? Well, according to Pixar president Jim Morris, the company is going to be focusing on original stories for the time being.
The reason for this is that Pixar is a filmmaker model instead of a standard business model, meaning that they don’t jump in for a sequel just because the first film was successful. Instead they look to the director of the original film for guidance, and if she or he has a great idea for a sequel, then – and only then – do they go ahead with round two. Morris mentions that sequels are often harder to pull off than the original, because there’s so much expectation that they can’t disappoint on (though, really, when has a Pixar film, sequel or otherwise, been a massive disappointment?).
So basically, there aren’t going to be sequels to Ratatouille, Wall-E, or Inside Out, anytime soon.
But there’s good news! Along with Cars 3, Toy Story 4, and The Incredibles 2 (releasing in 2017, 2018, 2019 respectively), we can look forward to a slate of original films with exciting new characters we will undoubtedly fall head-over-heels in love with. No one will be starved for Pixar content, that’s for sure.
