If ‘Game of Thrones’ had been a 1996 video game, it would have looked JUST like this

Somewhere overseas right now, between Spain and Croatia, Game of Thrones is currently filming its fifth season. Somewhere else stateside, hunched over an old school DOS computer, George R. R. Martin is typing away at the last two Game of Thrones books as quickly as he can. Meanwhile, we’re over here wondering where we can get our Game of Thrones fix while we patiently wait for the next novel and season to drop.

One very artistic fan has taken the waiting game to awesome new heights. Polish artist Czarek Łuczyński created six absolutely wonderful pixelated character renditions of our favorite characters, from Karl Drago to our girl crush Daenerys Targaryen.

I most definitely spent my childhood playing 8-bit (and then, 16-bit) video games on a now archaic computer, so these images bring back all the childhood feels. While, yeah, I’m totally all for the CGI stuff we get nowadays on television — and in movies and video games — but there’s something so wonderful and comforting about the simplicity of 8-bit. If you really want to set the mood, listen to this Game of Thrones theme song in glorious 8-bit as well, while staring at the snow fall gently around Jon Snow.

If this has brought up a desire to actually get your hands on a Game of Thrones video game, one will soon be available. Telltale Games, who does the widely popular and awesome Walking Dead games, is releasing a Game of Thrones series. It’ll be a six episode game series, the first one titled Iron from Ice. These games won’t be based on the show or the books, but rather a family briefly mentioned, House Forrester. But don’t worry, you’ll still get to visit King’s Landing and the North Wall.

While Game of Thrones: Iron from Ice does look pretty awesome (and boasts a voice cast made up of many actors from the show) I’m going to have to side with my old school Tyrion for today. He’s pretty badass, and he brings back a lot of fond kidhood memories.
