Everything (and we mean everything) we know about ‘Pitch Perfect 2’
Attention everyone, listen up, this is really important: the Barden Bellas are back!!!!! Okay, wait, maybe that was a little too much excitement. They’re not back quite yet. But if you sing it, they will come. Pitch Perfect 2 is not be coming our way till May 15, 2015 — which might seem like a forever— but that doesn’t mean we can’t start celebrating early. This week has been a great one to be a Pitch Perfect fan. Not only are three of our favorite Bellas — Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, and Brittany Snow — gracing the cover of Entertainment Weekly, but, there’s a new trailer out for the film, too! Aca-awesome.
Pitch Perfect quickly grew from a little movie no one was talking about to a movie everyone was talking about, and with good reason. It might center around an acapella competition, but it’s really about how awkward it can be showing up for your first day of college — and how no one fits in right away, so you needn’t worry. Match that story with a cast that has the pipes to take them all the way to regional, and so many wonderful sound bites to quote again and again, and you’ve got one of the best cult movie to come out of recent years. Of course its sequel is going to be just as aca-awesome. Anna Kendrick could literally sit on a stoop for two hours and we’d pay to see it.
This might be a little preemptive, but Pitch Perfect 2 is currently my favorite movie. Sorting through all we’ve learned so far about the upcoming flick, these are the things you really need to know to prepare yourselves for when the Bellas are FINALLY back together.
This is the first poster for the movie.
It’s Elizabeth Bank’s first time as a director, and she’s going to rock it.
“This is the stupidest idea I’ve ever had,” she told Entertainment Weekly. “My first movie is this huge studio movie that a lot of people care about that also happens to be a musical with massive dance numbers. I don’t know what I was thinking.” We were thinking that it’s a fabulous idea, and we support it 100%. Banks is not only a versatile actress, but clearly knows her way around behind the scenes, too. She produced the first film, and is taking her role up a notch to direct this one. Kay Cannon returns as writer.
The whole cast is back!
Everyone. And we mean everyone is back for the sequel in one way or another, from Cynthia-Rose, to Bumper, to Benji. This film jumps to their senior year at Barden University, and in an interview with Yahoo!, Banks said “They’re coming to the end of their time as Bellas and figuring out how to sort of leave the nest and the comfort of each other’s friendship and figure out what they’re going to do with the rest of their lives.”
Plus, some new additions.
Hailee Steinfeld (True Grit, Begin Again) will play a brand new Bella, as will Chrissie Fit (Teen Beach Movie). Katey Sagal (Sons of Anarchy) will play Steinfeld’s mom. And just like with the first film, you can expect a string of awesome cameos to show up.
And, Sing-Off winners, Pentatonix
The group won the third season of the show, and will play a competing acapella group that the Bellas go up against. Looks like the girls have their work cut out for them.
But are Becca and Jesse still together??
“I won’t say anything about that relationship,” said Banks. Oh no.
Regardless, Jesse and Benji can still harmonize like the pros.
Banks uploaded this video to her Facebook in honor of the 4th of July, and t rendition should be declared our new national anthem IMHO.
And Rebel Wilson does her own stunts!
In the same EW article, Wilson mentions that she performs a number inspired by Pink’s acrobatics. “It is extremely difficult. They couldn’t get a stunt double my size to do it. So they said, ‘Let’s just make Rebel do it. Is she afraid of heights? Yes? Let’s just put her up there. That should be hilarious.’” We’re all in.
Judging from everyone’s Twitter accounts, it appears that Pitch Perfect 2 was the most fun anyone has ever had on a movie set, ever.
“Fish face is the new duck face. #PP2” Anna Kendrick wrote on Instagram.
