Pink wants you to know she absolutely did not spit out gum during her Super Bowl performance
Last night, February 4th, Pink sang the national anthem at the 2018 Super Bowl (congrats, Eagles!). The singer did a fantastic job — especially considering she had come down with the flu just two days before the show. In an Insta message to fans the day before the game, Pink had written,
“Trying to practice the flu away. I’ve been waiting to sing this song since 1991 when I saw my idol, Whitney Houston, own this song. And now, my chance has finally come. And it just so happens that this chance comes when I have two small Petri dish kids who literally cough INTO MY MOUTH and rub their snot on my cheek. You can’t write this stuff I swear!”
But — because this is the world we live in — some people were criticizing her big performance. And Pink is not here for it. Specifically, she wants fans and critics alike to know that she absolutely did not spit out gum moments before her set.

Which makes sense, because she literally has the flu, but powered through to perform the national anthem on live television in front of millions of people. So let’s give Pink a break, people!
Luckily, most viewers were nothing but supportive of the star, and she thanked fans for their love in a tweet moments before her lozenge post.
