These pink burger buns are for real, but not very appetizing

Cute and playful food is kind of staple of some Asian countries — I mean, just check out things like Popin’ Cookin — so when photos of a pink burger started emerging online after being served at KFC China, it wasn’t all too surprising. But that doesn’t mean it’s appetizing.

Don’t get me wrong. I think a pink burger sounds amazing. I wish you could order a burger in any color you want. But just, uh, not this one. What sounds good in theory didn’t hold up so well in execution. KFC China started serving pink buns as a part of their rose cheese roasted chicken leg burger, and some think it’s in reference to a popular Japanese anime with a similar color scheme. However, what could have been a bright and cute way to accessorize food, actually ended up looking something like this:

That’s not exactly something I would want to sink my teeth into. But the pink burger isn’t the only experimenting they’ve done. There’s also a charcoal-black bun accompanying the black diamond bacon spicy chicken leg burger, which maybe looks just as odd, if not scary:

But hey, at the end of the day, these are the same sandwiches customers have loved for years, it’s just the color that’s changed. With that in mind, why not experiment? Why not go crazy? I’m sure the food still tastes as mouthwateringly delicious as it does with regular buns. These just have the added benefit of a really good Instagram.
