Sesame-Pierogies-e1456268446395.jpg

  • 1 (16-ounce) box Mrs. T’s Classic Onion Pierogies
  • Vegetable oil

For the batter …

  • 2 tbsp. cornstarch
  • 1 egg
  • Salt
  • Pepper

For the sauce …

  • 4 tbsp. soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp. water
  • 1 -1½ tbsp. sesame oil
  • 3 tbsp. brown sugar
  • 2 – 2½ tbsp. rice wine vinegar
  • 1 inch fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 tbsp. garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp. sesame seeds
  • 2 tbsp. cornstarch
  • 1-2 scallions, chopped

Allow pierogies to thaw for 15-20 minutes

To make the batter, whisk together cornstarch and egg — mix in a pinch of salt and pepper.

Set mixture aside and make sesame sauce, whisking together the soy sauce, water, sesame oil, brown sugar, rice wine vinegar, ginger, garlic, sesame seeds and cornstarch.

Dip the pierogies in egg and cornstarch batter.

Use a generous amount of hot vegetable oil to pan fry the battered pierogies until golden brown on both sides. Remove pierogies from the oil and set aside.

Once pierogies are warm or room temperature, coat pierogies in the sauce.

Add the pierogies coated in sauce to an oiled pan on medium or low heat. The sauce will quickly thicken on hot surface. As soon as sauce begins to thicken, remove pan from heat.

Sprinkle chopped green onions over the golden sesame pierogies and enjoy!
