Philadelphia just warned people not to do WHAT with dumpsters now?

Summer time on the east coast is hot, humid and basically just straight up miserable. Unless you have a beach or a pool conveniently located within steps from your house.

A bunch of dudes in Philadelphia had neither of those things, so they decided to take matters into their own hands.

They made their very own swimming pool in their front yard, complete with floaties and everything. Except the yard was the street. And the pool was a dumpster. A DUMPSTER.

The guys removed all trash items from the dumpster, power-washed it, lined it with plywood and tarps and cushioned the corners with pool noodles, according to the Associated Press. They then filled it with water from a fire hydrant.

And just like that — a dumpster pool!

It’s super creative — we’ll give them that. But sanitary? Probably not.

The guys threw a block party last weekend, drawing the attention of city officials who were, not surprisingly, NOT happy with the dumpster pool. false

The Department of Licenses and Inspections issued a statement saying the city won’t be issuing permits for block party dumpster pools.

Mainly because they’re dangerous and fully in the way, but also because they deplete resources.

But they’re so fun though!

“We are not screwing around, Philly,” agency spokesperson Karen Guss said in a statement. “The city strongly recommends that residents opt for recreational options that are safer, more sanitary and less likely to deplete the resources firefighters need in an emergency.”

So while dumpster pools might seem like a great idea when it’s blistering hot outside, maybe fill up a bathtub with cool water instead. It’s safer, cleaner and not in the middle of a city street. But way more boring.
