At some point in our lives, we’ve all dealt the trouble of applying makeup over an acne breakout. This particular acne makeover on Instagram has sparked quite a bit of controversy, though, because many people think the amount of makeup used is too much. The video came from former Shahs of Sunset star Lilly Ghalichi’s Instagram, and she snagged the clip from makeup artist Carla Moran.
The video is pretty straightforward. A woman with quite a bit of acne has a makeover done, and she looks pretty glam afterward. Clearly, Ghalichi thought it was pretty amazing as well, which is why she shared the video with the caption, “Gorgeous before and after!”

The application is a bit heavy, as you can see, but afterwards you can’t even tell she had acne at all! Because #MakeupIsMagic. However, people couldn’t help but comment and wonder if this was an unhealthy amount of makeup, and if it was going to aggravate the acne on her face.
Experts say this shouldn’t be a problem if you choose products that are non-comedogenic and oil-free. However, that doesn’t mean you should just have a free-for-all. Dr. Hadley King from SKINNEY Medspa told TeenVogue.com that the quality of your makeup also matters.
"Make sure you are using makeup that is fresh and clean—nothing expired or that smells funny—and no dirty brushes or sponges so that you aren't spreading bacteria on the skin," Dr. King said.
Dr. King also says non-comedogenic products can potentially clog pores, so apply the thinnest layer you can manage in order to prevent anymore breakouts. Finally, when you’re applying makeup, don’t pick at your acne, no matter how tempting it may be!
Well, there you have it. A little glam makeover to bring out an extra level of beauty shouldn’t hurt, even if you’re temporarily living with some acne.
