People are losing their minds over this screenshot of Arya in the last episode of “Game of Thrones”
Spoiler Alert! The girl has MANY spoilers!
There’s been a lot of talk about what’s actually happening to Arya Stark in the last episode of Game of Thrones. The last we saw of Arya, she was stabbed by Waif, tumbled over a bridge into the water, and walked through the streets of Braavos clutching her bleeding, possibly fatal wound. Basically, she is NOT having a very good time.
But usually there’s more than what meets the eye — especially when you’re dealing with Faceless Men and disguises and dark magic potions. Does it really seem that likely that George R.R. Martin/the Game of Thrones writers would just kill Arya off like that? Fans don’t seem to think so, and thus theories on Arya and Waif have been circulating this digital plane like CRAZY.
And now, redditor woohiya is pointing out something most of us probably missed:
It’s the scene right after Arya shows the captain she’s got the funds to travel back to Westeros and right before she gets stabbed by Waif. Woohiya notices that the girl who’s walking in front of Arya looks VERY MUCH like…Arya.
Here’s Arya in the same outfit a couple episodes prior to this one:
The sleeves are different, but STILL. What are the chances the Game of Thrones directors/writers placed a girl who’s wearing almost the EXACT outfit as Arya once wore, as well as the same hair style (in fact, it’s the outfit and hair style she seems to always wear when on a mission to poison someone)? There must be some significance to this, right?
Yesterday, we wrote about the possibility that Arya is essentially fighting with HERSELF, rather than with Waif. That maybe, just maybe, Waif doesn’t exist, and Arya’s goal in this whole becoming-a-Faceless-Man journey has been to kill her old self (to, you know, become “no one”). So with that in mind, does this mean the screenshot DOES show Arya?
OR, does this screenshot prove another theory — that the Arya we actually saw was Jaqen H’ghar. According to the theory, Jaqen disguised himself as Arya to test Waif (remember, he instructed Waif to not let Arya suffer, and as we saw, she definitely did NOT follow those instructions).
We’ll just have to find out this Sunday for the upcoming episode, for which the synopsis reads: “While Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) weighs his options, Cersei (Lena Headey) answers a request. Tyrion’s (Peter Dinklage) plans bear fruit. Arya (Maisie Williams) faces a new test.”
That’s right. A new test — as in, Arya is NOT DEAD YET. At least, we hope not.
