People who live in ~these~ states are more likely to get divorced
While there are many components that factor into divorce, we never really considered that the state where you live could have such a big effect on marriage!
A new study from personal finance company WalletHub released some interesting and somewhat terrifying research regarding happiness levels across the U.S. and apparently, some states have *significantly* higher divorce rates than others.
In order to conduct the study, researchers gathered information from “the Census Bureau, the Bureau of Labor Statistics, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, to find metrics on income growth, depression, sleep, obesity, participation in sports and volunteering, long-term unemployment, and marital status among others to calculate which states were the happiest (and unhappiest) overall.”
And it turns out, Washington D.C. actually has the HIGHEST divorce rate in the country, followed by Nevada, Florida, Louisiana, and Mississippi.
On the other hand, Utah actually had the lowest divorce rate, followed by North Dakota, Minnesota, New Jersey, and Hawaii.
The study also revealed other interesting trends among the states. Hawaii and California had the lowest rates of depression, D.C. and Colorado had the lowest obesity rates, and Vermont and Massachusetts were ranked as the top 2 safest states to live in.
